Anthony Langston shows off his knife skills in 2021. After his 2020 stint on Netflix’s Best Leftovers Ever!, the Denton home cook will compete in Hulu’s upcoming cooking competition Secret Chef.
The contestants on Secret Chef are guided by a mischievous animated talking hat, Chefy, who tasks the cooks with performing a series of cooking challenges.
Ten contestants will compete on Hulu’s new show Secret Chef, from executive producer and chef David Chang. The competition takes place in an underground labyrinth of kitchens.
Denton home cook Anthony Langston was selected to participate in Hulu’s new cooking competition Secret Chef for a chance to win the $100,000 grand prize.
The show from executive producer and chef David Chang will showcase 10 contestants who are isolated in a secret underground kitchen labyrinth connected by a series of conveyor belts.
Instead of having traditional cooking-show judges, the participants must rate each other’s final dishes in blind taste tests. Secret Chef premieres June 29 on Hulu.
“Judging your peers and knowing they’re doing the same thing with my dish — it’s always a heavy burden,” Langston said. “Like, oh, I gotta be honest with the judging, but I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.”
The contestants are guided by a mischievous animated talking hat, Chefy, who tasks the participants with performing a series of cooking challenges.
“The hat was a little evil sometimes with some of the challenges,” Langston said, laughing.
He and the other participants had to think outside the box during the show’s cooking challenges.
“They were challenging — they were fun,” Langston said. “A lot of twists and turns and excitement about the show.”
Langston is the culinary director of Ten:One Artisan Cheese, a cheese shop in downtown Denton that offers house-made accoutrements to pair with cheese selections.
He also had a stint with MasterChef, where a casting representative remembered Langston and asked him to audition for Secret Chef.
Langston went on to audition for the new show and said he was ecstatic when he was cast.
As a child, culinary shows on PBS and Food Network ignited his love for cooking. Langston is self-taught, having learned from cooking shows and YouTube tutorials.
Langston’s skill set includes his attention to detail and his ability to chop at lightning speed thanks to obsessive practice.
He specializes in New American and French cuisine and takes pride in his artistic flair in plating. He also excels at creating delicious Tex-Mex dishes. His signature dish is bacon-wrapped sous vide scallop with corn soup beurre blanc.
Filming for Secret Chef took place last year, and Langston said he had a good time on set with the cast and everyone involved behind the scenes. He said those curious about the show will have a blast since it’s a unique cooking show.
“Tune in — it’s a one-of-a-kind show,” Langston said.
