Denton police are taking extra precautions as multiple reports of an online image possibly threatening Denton ISD schools continue to come in, a spokesperson said.
Denton Police Department spokesperson Allison Beckwith said Wednesday afternoon that police are continuing to investigate the reports but have not come across any substantiated threats to the schools.
Parents at schools across the district have received correspondence about the rumored threat Wednesday. But Beckwith and Julie Zwahr, the Denton ISD chief communications officer, said the rumored threat did not mention any specific campus.
In addition to a vague threat over the weekend, Beckwith said it’s possible that old photos of hoaxes are circulating once again online. Beckwith said similar hoax threats circulated at the end of the last school year, too.
Zwahr said Tuesday that the school district has received several reports regarding the same incident. But, especially in light of the Allen Premium Outlets mass shooting and Stonebriar Mall shooting reports, Zwahr and Beckwith encouraged students and parents to report anything suspicious to police and through the STOPit app.
Due to safety concerns, Beckwith said she could not share further details on the steps Denton police are taking to address the unsubstantiated threat reports.
