Argyle’s Park Prater hits the ball during the Eagles’ nondistrict game against Guyer earlier this season. Argyle advanced to its second straight state tournament after beating Lubbock Cooper in the 5A Region I championship.
One last team from the Denton Record-Chronicle’s coverage area is still swinging, and it’s an Argyle baseball program that is plenty familiar with deep playoff runs.
The Eagles have had their challenges in their first year at the 5A level, including facing elimination in seven games through the first five rounds of the playoffs. They have found ways to survive and advance each time on the way to their sixth state tournament appearance in the last nine full seasons.
Now, Argyle is one win away from its second straight state championship game appearance and two victories from taking home its fourth state title.
The Eagles are joined at the 5A state tournament by Magnolia West (34-5), Boerne Champion (33-11-1) and Frisco Reedy (28-15) as the last four 5A squads standing across the state.
The Record-Chronicle runs down the schedule for the Eagles’ semifinal and potential title game below.
Argyle (34-10-2) vs. Boerne Champion (33-11-1)
7 p.m. Thursday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Class 5A state championship game (if advance)
12 p.m. Saturday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
